Ziemowit

Ziemowit is a traditional Polish name with roots in Proto-Slavic languages. It is composed of the elements *zemja (earth, land) and *vitъ (lord, master). The name is strongly associated with early Polish history, particularly with the legendary Duke Ziemowit, who is considered the first historical ruler of the Polans, a West Slavic tribe that inhabited the region of present-day Poland. He was the son of Piast the Wheelwright and Rzepicha, and the father of Leszek. His existence is primarily known from the chronicles of Gallus Anonymus, written in the 12th century.
