Ulixes

Ulixes is the Latin form of the Greek name Odysseus. The etymology of Odysseus is debated, but a common theory links it to the Greek verb 'odyssesthai' (to be angry, to suffer) or 'odyssasthai' (to cause pain, to wound). The Roman adaptation to Ulixes likely occurred through Etruscan mediation, as the Etruscans often modified Greek names before they were adopted into Latin. The name gained prominence in Roman culture through the translation of Homer's epics, particularly the Odyssey, into Latin.

While Odysseus is a central figure in Greek mythology, his Latin counterpart, Ulixes, became equally significant in Roman literature and thought.
