    History & Etymology

Uendi is an Albanian variant of the English name Wendy. The name Wendy was first popularized by J.M. Barrie in his 1904 play 'Peter Pan', where it was given to the character Wendy Darling. Barrie is believed to have either invented the name or adapted it from a childhood nickname 'fwendy' (friendy) given to him by a young girl. Before 'Peter Pan', the name was virtually unknown as a given name.

The Albanian adoption of 'Uendi' reflects a common practice of adapting foreign names to fit Albanian phonology and spelling conventions. While 'Wendy' itself has a relatively modern and literary origin, its Albanian form has become a recognized name within that cultural context.
