Theseus

Theseus is a legendary hero in Greek mythology, son of Aethra and Poseidon (or Aegeus). He is most famous for his slaying of the Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull creature, in the labyrinth of Crete. His adventures also include unifying Attica under Athens, battling the Amazons, and participating in the Calydonian Boar hunt. He is considered the founder-hero of Athens and a symbol of Athenian strength and justice.

The name's etymology is debated among scholars. While the most common interpretation links it to the Greek verb 'tithenai' (to set, to establish), some theories suggest a pre-Greek origin or a connection to the word 'theos' (god). Regardless of its precise linguistic root, the name has been inextricably linked with the heroic figure and the foundational myths of Athens since antiquity.
