Tethys

Tethys is a significant figure in Greek mythology, one of the Titans, daughter of Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth). She was the wife of Oceanus, and together they were the parents of the Potamoi (river gods) and the Oceanids (sea nymphs). Her name is often associated with the concept of a 'nurse' or 'mother' due to her role in nurturing the fresh waters of the world and her numerous offspring. While not as widely worshipped as some other Olympian gods, Tethys held an important place in the cosmic order as a primordial deity.

The name Tethys has seen very limited use as a personal name outside of its mythological context. Its primary recognition comes from its association with the goddess and, in modern times, with geological concepts like the Tethys Ocean, an ancient sea that existed between the continents of Gondwana and Laurasia during much of the Mesozoic Era. This geological naming further solidifies its connection to water and vastness.
