Switun

Switun is an Old English name, derived from the elements 'swiþ' (strong, swift, powerful) and 'wine' (friend) or possibly 'tun' (enclosure, settlement). The most famous bearer of this name is Saint Swithun, an Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester in the 9th century. He was known for his piety and humility, and after his death, he became associated with weather lore, particularly the belief that if it rains on St. Swithun's Day (July 15th), it will rain for 40 days.

The name was relatively common in England during the Anglo-Saxon period and the early Middle Ages due to the veneration of Saint Swithun. However, its usage declined significantly after the Norman Conquest as French and Norman names became more prevalent.
