Sigyn

Sigyn is a name deeply rooted in Norse mythology. She is known as the wife of Loki, the trickster god. Despite Loki's mischievous and often cruel nature, Sigyn remains steadfastly loyal to him, even enduring immense suffering by his side. Her most famous act of devotion is holding a bowl over Loki's face to catch the venom dripping from a serpent, preventing it from burning him, a task she performs until the bowl fills and she must empty it, during which time Loki writhes in agony, causing earthquakes.

The name itself is a compound of two Old Norse elements: 'sigr' meaning 'victory' and 'vin' meaning 'friend'. This etymology reflects a powerful and positive meaning, contrasting somewhat with the tragic fate of the mythological figure. While not a common name in modern times, its mythological association gives it a strong, historical, and somewhat melancholic character.
