Síne

Síne is an Irish name, a direct Gaelicization of the Norman French name Jehanne, which itself is a feminine form of Jean. Jean is the French equivalent of John, derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan, meaning 'God is gracious'. The name Siobhán, from which Síne is a variant, became very popular in Ireland after the Norman invasion in the 12th century, replacing older native Irish names. Síne emerged as a distinct, though less common, variant.

Over centuries, the spelling and pronunciation of names evolved in Ireland. Síne represents a phonetic spelling closer to how Siobhán might be pronounced in certain dialects, particularly in Ulster.
