Rind

Rind is a figure from Norse mythology, primarily known as a giantess or goddess who is the mother of Váli by Odin. Her story is most prominently found in the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. Odin, seeking revenge for the death of Baldr, was prophesied that a son born to him by Rind would avenge Baldr. He used magic to ensure her conception, leading to the birth of Váli, who grew to adulthood in a single day and avenged Baldr by killing Höðr.

The name's etymology is debated, but the most accepted theory links it to the Old Norse word 'rindr,' meaning 'earth' or 'land.' This connection might symbolize her role as a primordial or foundational figure in the mythological narrative, or perhaps her association with the fertile ground from which new life (Váli) springs. Despite her significant role in a key mythological event, Rind is not a widely used name in modern times, remaining largely within the realm of mythological study and historical interest.
