Quitterie is a rare and historically significant name, primarily associated with Saint Quiteria (or Quitterie), a virgin martyr of the 4th or 5th century. Her legend states she was one of nine sisters, all martyred for their Christian faith. The name's origin is believed to be from the Latin 'quietus', meaning 'quiet' or 'calm', or possibly from a Germanic root. Her cult was particularly strong in Gascony, France, and parts of Spain and Portugal, where she is venerated as a patron saint against rabies and for the protection of animals.

The name has remained largely confined to these regions, especially southwestern France, and has not seen widespread international adoption.
