Prosha

Prosha is a diminutive or pet form of the Russian name Praskovya. Praskovya itself is derived from the Greek name Paraskeve (Παρασκευή), which means 'preparation' or 'Friday'. In Eastern Orthodox tradition, Friday holds religious significance as the day of Christ's crucifixion, and saints named Paraskevi are venerated. The name became popular in Russia due to the veneration of Saint Paraskevi of Iconium and other saints with this name.

Over time, as with many Slavic names, various diminutives and short forms emerged. Prosha is one such affectionate form, often used within families or among close friends. While Praskovya has a long history, Prosha as a standalone name is less common and primarily functions as a nickname.
