Phèdre

Phèdre is the French form of the Greek name Phaedra (Φαίδρα). In Greek mythology, Phaedra was the daughter of Minos and Pasiphaë, and the wife of Theseus. She fell in love with her stepson Hippolytus, and when he rejected her advances, she accused him of rape, leading to his death and ultimately her own. The tragic story of Phaedra has been a popular subject in literature and opera, most notably in Jean Racine's 1677 play 'Phèdre'.
