Perun

Perun is a prominent figure in Slavic mythology, the highest god of the pantheon and the god of thunder, lightning, storms, rain, law, war, fertility, and oak trees. His name is derived from the Proto-Slavic root *perunъ, meaning 'thunder' or 'strike'. He is often depicted as a strong, bearded man wielding an axe or hammer, riding a chariot across the sky.

The worship of Perun was widespread among various Slavic tribes before the Christianization of Eastern Europe. Evidence of his cult includes numerous idols, sacred groves, and ritual sites dedicated to him. After the adoption of Christianity, many of Perun's attributes and functions were transferred to Saint Elijah, who is also associated with thunder and storms in Slavic folklore.
