Óðinn

Óðinn is a prominent figure in Norse mythology, one of the most complex and revered gods. He is the Allfather, ruler of Asgard, and associated with wisdom, war, death, poetry, magic, and prophecy. His name is derived from the Old Norse word 'óðr', meaning 'fury, inspiration, ecstasy'. He is often depicted as a long-bearded, one-eyed old man, having sacrificed an eye for wisdom at Mímir's well. He rides an eight-legged horse named Sleipnir and wields the spear Gungnir.

The worship of Óðinn was widespread among Germanic peoples, particularly during the Viking Age. His cult involved rituals, sacrifices, and poetic recitations. The name's strong association with the deity means it is rarely used as a personal name in modern times, though it has seen some limited revival in regions with strong Norse heritage, often in a more symbolic or cultural context.
