Océan

The name Océan is derived from the Ancient Greek word 'Okeanos' (Ὠκεανός), which referred to the divine personification of the world-encircling river, believed to be the source of all fresh water. In Greek mythology, Oceanus was a Titan, the eldest son of Uranus (Sky) and Gaea (Earth), and husband of Tethys. He was often depicted as a horned, fish-tailed serpent.

While the concept of the ocean has been present in many cultures, the name Océan as a given name is primarily a modern French adoption.
