Niesiebąd

Niesiebąd is a rare Old Polish name, a compound of two Proto-Slavic elements. The first element, *ne- (nie-), means 'not', and the second, *sěpǫdъ (siebąd), is related to 'to be afraid' or 'to fear'. Thus, the name literally translates to 'not afraid' or 'fearless'.

Names formed with the 'nie-' prefix were common in early Slavic naming traditions, often used to ward off evil spirits or to bestow a desired characteristic upon the child. Niesiebąd, like many other Old Polish names, fell out of common use after the Christianization of Poland, as biblical and saint names became more prevalent. It is now primarily found in historical records and as a surname.
