Nieluba

Nieluba is a rare Slavic name, directly derived from the word 'nie lubić' meaning 'not to like' or 'to dislike'. Names with negative or apotropaic meanings were not uncommon in ancient Slavic cultures. They were sometimes given to children with the belief that such a name would ward off evil spirits or bad luck, as the spirits would not want to bother an 'unloved' child. This practice was based on sympathetic magic, where naming something with an undesirable characteristic was thought to protect it from actually acquiring that characteristic.

Over time, as Christianization spread through Slavic lands, many of these older pagan names fell out of favor, replaced by biblical or saintly names. Nieluba is now extremely rare and largely forgotten, existing primarily in historical records or as a curiosity for etymologists studying ancient Slavic naming conventions. Its usage today would be highly unusual.
