Nepomucena

Nepomucena is a feminine given name derived from the Latinized form of Nepomuk, a town in Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). The name gained prominence due to Saint John of Nepomuk (Jan Nepomucký), a 14th-century Bohemian martyr who was canonized in 1729. He is revered as a patron saint of Bohemia, of bridges, and against floods.

The name Nepomucena, and its masculine counterpart Nepomuceno, became popular in Catholic countries, particularly in Central Europe, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, as a way to honor Saint John of Nepomuk. It was often given to children born on or around his feast day (May 16th) or in families with a strong devotion to the saint.
