The name Nedad is of Slavic origin, derived from the Old Slavic word 'nedati' meaning 'to not give' or 'to deny'. Historically, names with negative connotations like Nedad (meaning 'undesired' or 'unwanted') were sometimes given to children in Slavic cultures. This practice was rooted in a superstitious belief that such a name would ward off evil spirits or bad luck, as it implied the child was already 'unwanted' by misfortune, thus making them less appealing to malevolent forces. It was a form of apotropaic naming.
