Micipsa

Micipsa was a king of Numidia, an ancient Berber kingdom in North Africa, who reigned from 148 to 118 BC. He was the eldest legitimate son of Masinissa, the first King of Numidia. Micipsa continued his father's policy of alliance with Rome and fostered trade and agriculture, leading to a period of prosperity for Numidia. He was known for his diplomatic skills and for expanding the city of Cirta, making it a center of Numidian culture and commerce.

His reign was largely peaceful, but his succession plan caused significant conflict. He adopted his nephew Jugurtha and raised him alongside his own two sons, Adherbal and Hiempsal. Upon his death, he divided the kingdom among the three, a decision that ultimately led to the Jugurthine War, as Jugurtha sought to seize full control.
