Margarítis is the modern Greek masculine form of the ancient Greek word 'margarites' (μαργαρίτης), meaning 'pearl'. The word itself is believed to have been borrowed into Greek from an Old Persian word. While the feminine form 'Margarita' has been widely popular across many cultures due to its association with the flower and its religious connotations (Saint Margaret), the masculine form 'Margarítis' remains more distinctly Greek.
