Lygia is a name of Greek origin, derived from the word 'lygios' (λυγιος), meaning 'clear' or 'melodious'. It is most famously known through the character Lygia Callina in Henryk Sienkiewicz's 1896 historical novel 'Quo Vadis'. In the novel, Lygia is a beautiful Christian hostage of Roman origin, adopted by the Lygian tribe, which gives her the name.
