Lukrécie is the Czech and Slovak form of the Roman family name Lucretia. The name is derived from the Latin word 'lucrum', meaning 'profit' or 'wealth'. The most famous bearer of the name was Lucretia, a legendary Roman heroine whose rape by Sextus Tarquinius and subsequent suicide was a catalyst for the overthrow of the Roman monarchy and the establishment of the Roman Republic in 509 BC. Her story became a symbol of purity and virtue, and she was revered as a paragon of Roman womanhood.

Due to the tragic and virtuous story of Lucretia, the name carried connotations of honor, chastity, and sacrifice.
