Lawking

Lawking is a rare English surname that has been occasionally used as a given name. It is a patronymic, meaning 'son of Lawkin', where Lawkin is a diminutive of the medieval given name Lawrence. The name Lawrence itself is derived from the Roman cognomen Laurentius, meaning 'from Laurentum', an ancient city in Italy.

The use of surnames as first names became more common in English-speaking countries from the 17th century onwards, often to honor a family surname or to distinguish a child.
