Lastenia is a name of Ancient Greek origin, derived from the Greek word 'lastos' (λάστος), which means 'ardent' or 'eager'. It was notably borne by Lasthenia of Mantinea, a female student of Plato's Academy in the 4th century BC. She is one of the few documented female philosophers of ancient Greece, often said to have disguised herself as a man to attend the lectures.
