Kyrylo

Kyrylo is the Ukrainian form of the Greek name Kyrillos, which itself derives from the Greek word 'kyrios' (κύριος), meaning 'lord' or 'master'. The name gained significant prominence through Saint Cyril of Alexandria, a 5th-century Patriarch of Alexandria, and especially through Saint Cyril, one of the two brothers (along with Methodius) credited with creating the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet for Old Church Slavonic, and thus for spreading Christianity and literacy among the Slavic peoples in the 9th century. This historical association firmly established the name within Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Slavic cultures.
