Kriemhilde

Kriemhilde is a name of Old High German origin, derived from the elements *grim* meaning 'mask, helmet' and *hilt* meaning 'battle, combat'. It is most famously associated with the tragic heroine of the Nibelungenlied, a medieval German epic poem. In the epic, Kriemhilde is a Burgundian princess who marries the hero Siegfried, and after his murder, she seeks revenge, leading to the downfall of her family and the Burgundian kingdom.

The name's strong and somewhat somber connotations are deeply tied to this literary tradition. While it was a historical name, its prominence is largely due to the Nibelungenlied, which cemented its place in German cultural consciousness.
