Keto / Ketevan

Keto is primarily known as a Georgian diminutive of the name Ketevan. Ketevan itself is derived from the Greek name Aikaterine (Catherine), which means 'pure' or 'chaste'. While 'Keto' might appear as a standalone name or nickname in various contexts, its most prominent etymological root and association with this specific meaning comes through its connection to Ketevan in Georgian culture.

In Greek mythology, there is also a primordial sea goddess named Ceto (often spelled Keto), who was the daughter of Gaia and Pontus, and mother of various sea monsters. However, the Georgian name 'Keto' is not directly linked to this mythological figure but rather to the Greek root of 'Catherine'. The similarity in spelling is coincidental, and the Georgian usage firmly points to the 'pure' meaning.
