Juwayriya

Juwayriya is an Arabic name, a diminutive form of the word 'juwayriyah' which means 'little pear' or 'young girl'. Its most prominent historical association is with Juwayriya bint al-Harith, one of the wives of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. She was originally named Barrah, but Muhammad changed her name to Juwayriya. Her marriage to Muhammad led to the release of many captives from her tribe, Banu Mustaliq, as Muslims considered it inappropriate to enslave relatives of the Prophet's wife.
