Juba

The name Juba is most famously associated with two kings of Numidia (an ancient Berber kingdom in North Africa). Juba I and Juba II were significant figures in Roman history, particularly during the late Roman Republic and early Roman Empire. Juba I was a staunch ally of Pompey the Great against Julius Caesar, and his kingdom was eventually annexed by Caesar. His son, Juba II, was raised in Rome, educated, and later restored to power as a client king of Mauretania by Augustus. He was a highly educated and prolific writer, known for his works on history, geography, and natural science, though most of his writings are now lost. The name itself is believed to be of Berber origin, reflecting the indigenous heritage of the region.
