Jerònia

Jerònia is the Catalan form of the name Hieronyma, which is the feminine equivalent of Hieronymus. The name Hieronymus itself is derived from the Greek name Hieronymos (Ἱερώνυμος), meaning 'sacred name' or 'holy name,' from 'hieros' (sacred, holy) and 'onyma' (name). The masculine form, Jerome, is much more widely known due to Saint Jerome, a prominent 4th-century Christian scholar and theologian responsible for translating the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate).

While the masculine form Jerome gained significant popularity across Europe due to the saint, the feminine form Jerònia (and its variants) has remained more regional, particularly in Catalan-speaking areas. It carries a sense of tradition and historical depth, often associated with religious devotion due to its etymological roots and the influence of Saint Jerome.
