Ipolitas is the Lithuanian form of the ancient Greek name Hippolytus. The name derives from the Greek words 'hippos' (horse) and 'lyein' (to loosen, unbridle). In Greek mythology, Hippolytus was the son of Theseus and the Amazon queen Hippolyta. He was known for his devotion to the goddess Artemis and his rejection of Aphrodite, which led to his tragic demise.
