Ilmatar

Ilmatar is a significant figure in Finnish mythology, particularly in the Kalevala, the national epic of Finland. She is the primordial spirit of the air and the mother of Väinämöinen, the central hero of the Kalevala. In the creation myth, she descends into the primeval waters, where she is impregnated by the wind and gives birth to the world and its first hero. The name itself reflects her role as a celestial being.

While traditionally a mythological figure, Ilmatar has seen some use as a given name in Finland, though it remains relatively rare.
