Ifigénia

Ifigénia is the Portuguese and Galician form of the ancient Greek name Iphigenia. The name is derived from the Greek elements 'iphios' (strong, mighty) and 'genes' (born). In Greek mythology, Iphigenia was a daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra, and a central figure in the Trojan War cycle. Her story is one of sacrifice and divine intervention, as she was offered as a human sacrifice to the goddess Artemis to appease her and allow the Greek fleet to sail to Troy. However, Artemis intervened, replacing Iphigenia with a deer and carrying her away to Tauris where she became a priestess.

The name has been used in various forms throughout history, particularly in cultures influenced by classical Greek literature. Its association with a tragic yet divinely favored heroine has given it a certain gravitas and historical depth.
