Horus

Horus is one of the most significant ancient Egyptian deities, worshipped from at least the late Predynastic period until the Greco-Roman era. He was typically depicted as a falcon or a man with a falcon's head. His name, Hr (or Hor), is thought to mean 'the distant one' or 'the one above', referring to his celestial nature as a sky god.

Horus played a central role in Egyptian mythology, particularly as the son of Osiris and Isis. He avenged his father's death by defeating his uncle Set, thereby becoming the rightful ruler of Egypt. This myth established him as the divine prototype for the pharaohs, who were considered to be the living embodiment of Horus on Earth. His cult was widespread and enduring, with many temples dedicated to him throughout Egypt.
