Hieronijmus is a Lithuanian form of the Greek name Hieronymos. The original Greek name is derived from the elements 'hieros' (sacred) and 'onyma' (name). It gained significant prominence through Saint Jerome (Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus), a prominent Christian scholar and theologian of the 4th and 5th centuries. Saint Jerome is best known for translating the Bible into Latin, a version known as the Vulgate, which became the standard Latin Bible of the Catholic Church for centuries.
