Haumea

Haumea is a prominent goddess in Hawaiian mythology, revered as the mother of many important deities, including Pele, the goddess of volcanoes. Her name is deeply intertwined with the creation myths and the fertility of the land. She is often associated with regeneration and the cycle of life and death, as she was said to be able to transform herself into a young woman to marry her descendants.

The name gained astronomical recognition in 2008 when one of the dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt was officially named Haumea, acknowledging its Hawaiian discovery team and the goddess's association with creation. This celestial naming has brought the ancient Hawaiian name into a modern, scientific context, increasing its global recognition.
