Hades

Hades is a name deeply rooted in Ancient Greek mythology. He is the god of the underworld and the dead, often depicted as a stern and unyielding figure. Unlike many other Olympian gods, Hades was not typically worshipped in the same public manner, and his name was often avoided out of fear or reverence, leading to euphemisms like 'Pluto' (meaning 'the wealthy one') which referred to the riches of the earth beneath his domain.

The name's etymology is debated, but the most widely accepted theory links it to the Greek word 'aides' (ἀίδης), meaning 'unseen' or 'invisible.' This refers to his realm beneath the earth, hidden from the living world. Despite his fearsome reputation, Hades was not inherently evil; he maintained order in the underworld and was a just, albeit severe, ruler.
