Genezjusz / Genesius / Genès

Genezjusz is the Polish form of the ancient Greek name Genesios (Γενέσιος), which is derived from the word 'genesis' (γένεσις), meaning 'birth,' 'origin,' or 'creation.' The name gained prominence through Saint Genesius, a Roman actor who, according to legend, was martyred in the 3rd or 4th century during a performance mocking Christian baptism. He is said to have been miraculously converted on stage and then declared his faith, leading to his execution.

The veneration of Saint Genesius spread throughout Europe, particularly in Catholic countries. In Poland, the name Genezjusz has been used historically, though it has never achieved widespread popularity. It remains a relatively rare name, often chosen for its historical and religious connotations.
