Euphémie

Euphémie is the French form of the ancient Greek name Euphemia. The name is derived from the Greek words 'eu' (good, well) and 'pheme' (speech, voice, reputation). In ancient Greece, 'euphemia' referred to the use of words of good omen, or auspicious speech, often in religious contexts to avoid offending deities. The name became associated with early Christian saints, most notably Saint Euphemia of Chalcedon, a virgin martyr of the 4th century. Her veneration in both Eastern and Western Christianity helped to spread the name throughout Europe.

While popular in various forms across Europe, Euphémie gained particular traction in France, especially during the medieval period and later.
