Eufémia

Eufémia is the Portuguese and Galician form of the Ancient Greek name Euphemia (Εὐφημία). The name is derived from the Greek elements 'eu' (εὖ), meaning 'good' or 'well', and 'pheme' (φήμη), meaning 'speech' or 'reputation'. It literally translates to 'good speech' or 'auspicious speech'.

The name gained significant popularity due to Saint Euphemia, a virgin martyr who suffered under the Diocletianic Persecution in the early 4th century. Her veneration, particularly in the Eastern Orthodox Church, spread the name throughout the Byzantine Empire and subsequently into various European cultures, including those of the Iberian Peninsula.
