Eryx

Eryx is a name with roots in Ancient Greek mythology. It is most famously associated with Eryx, a son of Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty) and Butes, or sometimes Poseidon. He was a mythical king of the city of Eryx in Sicily, known for his strength and boxing prowess. He famously challenged Heracles (Hercules) to a boxing match and was ultimately defeated and killed by the hero.

The name's etymology is debated, but one theory suggests it derives from the Greek verb 'eryo' (ἐρύω), meaning 'to draw out' or 'to drag'. This could refer to drawing out an opponent in battle or perhaps the geographical feature of the city of Eryx being a prominent peak.
