Ermis is the modern Greek form of the ancient Greek name Hermes. Hermes was a prominent and multifaceted deity in Greek mythology, known as the messenger of the gods, god of trade, heraldry, merchants, roads, sports, travelers, and thievery. He was often depicted with winged sandals and a caduceus (a staff entwined with two snakes).
