Enki

Enki is one of the most important deities in ancient Mesopotamian mythology, particularly in Sumerian and later Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian pantheons. He was the god of water, knowledge, mischief, crafts, and creation. Often depicted with a horned cap and flowing water, Enki was seen as a benevolent figure who brought civilization to humanity, teaching them arts and crafts. His cult center was the city of Eridu, one of the oldest cities in Sumer.

The name Enki itself is believed to be derived from Sumerian 'en' (lord) and 'ki' (earth), though some scholars suggest 'ki' might also refer to the underworld or a specific type of land. He is often associated with wisdom and magic, and many myths describe him outwitting other gods or creating solutions to complex problems. His influence extended throughout Mesopotamia, and he remained a significant figure for millennia.
