Eloísa is the Spanish and Portuguese form of the Germanic name Helewidis, which was composed of the elements *heil* meaning 'healthy, whole' and *wid* meaning 'wide'. The name was brought to England by the Normans in the form Heloise, and later became popular in France as Héloïse.
