Ehuang

Ehuang (娥皇) is a legendary figure in ancient Chinese mythology. She was one of the two daughters of the mythical Emperor Yao, and along with her sister Nüying, became a consort of Emperor Shun. The sisters are often depicted as paragons of virtue and loyalty, following Shun into exile and mourning his death by the Xiang River, where they are said to have transformed into goddesses of the river. Their story is a classic tale of devotion and tragedy in Chinese folklore.

The name itself combines 'E' (娥), meaning 'beautiful woman' or 'goddess', and 'Huang' (皇), meaning 'emperor' or 'sovereign'. While 'Huang' typically refers to a male ruler, in this context, it signifies her royal status and importance as an empress or imperial consort. The name thus evokes images of beauty, nobility, and ancient imperial lineage.
