History & Etymology
Egisto is the Italian form of the ancient Greek name Aegisthus (Αἴγισθος). In Greek mythology, Aegisthus was a figure associated with the tragic House of Atreus. He was the son of Thyestes and his own daughter Pelopia, and later became the lover of Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's wife. Together, they murdered Agamemnon upon his return from the Trojan War.
Despite its mythological associations with betrayal and murder, the name has been used in Italy, likely due to its classical roots and the sound of the name itself. Its usage is relatively rare and often seen as a more traditional or literary choice.
