Demeter

Demeter is a name of Ancient Greek origin, derived from the elements 'da' (Dorice form of 'ge', meaning 'earth') and 'meter' (meaning 'mother'). She is one of the most prominent figures in Greek mythology, revered as the Olympian goddess of agriculture, harvest, fertility, and sacred law. Her cult was widespread throughout the Greek world, and she was particularly associated with the Eleusinian Mysteries, a major religious festival.

The myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone, who was abducted by Hades, explains the changing seasons.
