Caiphas

Caiaphas is a name primarily known from the New Testament of the Bible. Joseph Caiaphas was the high priest of Judea who presided over the Sanhedrin trial of Jesus Christ. His role in the crucifixion narrative has indelibly linked the name to this historical figure. Due to this strong association, the name has rarely been used outside of historical or religious contexts, and almost never as a given name.

The etymology of the name is debated, but it is generally accepted to be of Aramaic origin. The proposed meanings, 'he that seeks with diligence' or 'one that vomiteth,' reflect different interpretations of its linguistic roots.
