Boromeusz is the Polish form of the Italian name Borromeo. The name originated as a surname, famously borne by the noble Borromeo family of Milan, Italy. The most prominent member of this family was Saint Charles Borromeo (Carlo Borromeo in Italian), a cardinal and archbishop of Milan in the 16th century, who was a leading figure in the Counter-Reformation.
